Had a couple of deputy sheriff's show up at my door a couple years ago saying they got a tip that I had a meth lab and could they come in. Learned later that it was 'cuz of neighbor who was pissed that both my wife and I got up real early because we both started work at 5am -- but in so doing we woke up neighbor every morning, and this was her revenge/genuine concern/some combo of the two.

Anyway, these two cops were just floored when I said no way, and started to try and just push right into my house. They seemed honestly flabergasted when I made it very clear that without a warrant or physical violence, they weren't coming in... like it never happens to them. I was raised by crooks, which is why I a) choose to live pretty straight and narrow (no, I didn't have a meth lab, or anything else illegal) and b) know the drill, and know you never let a cop into your house. But I bet most folks aren't willing to go toe to toe like that with a cop.

Funny thing, I just got a jury duty notice. So far, I've never actually been on a jury. But one of these days it'll happen. And I hope I wind up on a case that involves a challenged consent search. The DA won't know it, but he'll have those two deputies to blame when that jury hangs.
